Starting Friday, two Liga MX teams will come to Austin as a result of Q2 Stadium hosting all three Leagues Cup group matches, with Mazatlan FC and FC Juarez coming.
But on Sept. 10, two of the top-tier Mexican league teams with much bigger followings will come to Austin.
Austin FC announced Monday afternoon that as part of Tour Águila, Club América and Tigres UANL will play at Q2 Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 10,
The same tour brought América and CF Monterrey to Q2 in March 2022, a friendly that Rayados won 2-1. Tigres last came to Austin for a friendly against Verde in July 2021, that the visitors won 3-1
“We’re delighted to welcome Club América and Tour Águila back to Q2 Stadium once again,” said Austin FC President Andy Loughnane by way of press release. “Both América and Tigres have passionate fan support at home in Mexico and here in Texas, and this match gives those fans from Texas another chance to see their teams live.”
The release also notes, "Austin FC Oak Collective Season Ticket members will have access to a ticket pre-sale beginning at 10 a.m. CT on Thursday, July 20, while Waitlist members have access to a pre-sale at 2 p.m. CT on the same day. Tickets go on-sale to the public at 10 a.m. CT on Friday, July 21."
Both Liga MX are preparing for Leagues Cup matches against MLS competition in a tournament that starts Friday. The Aguilas won't get started until next Thursday at St. Louis's Citypark against St. Louis City SC, while Tigres will kick off its Leagues Cup against Portland Timbers FC next Wednesday.
