Austin fans of the U.S. women's national team — as well as those who made the trek to the Heart of Texas — got a bittersweet win on Saturday.
On one hand, the four-time World Cup winners outshot Ireland considerably en route to the 2-0 victory, with Emily Fox and Lindsey Horan leading the way. However, the headlines from the match were all about Mal Swanson and her knee injury — which, according to multiple reports, is serious enough to sideline her from the upcoming global tournament in Australia and New Zealand this summer.
Still, it's not that often that Austin gets to welcome a national team. It's the second visit by the U.S. women at Q2, with the first coming on June 16, 2021 to open the still relatively new stadium to the public. Andy Nietupski, who provides our incredible Austin FC home photos, captured the World-Cup bound Americans in action — here are some of our favorite photos (as well as some of the ones that pained us the most) from the day.
