Report: Ben Olsen to be next coach of Houston Dynamo FC (Houston Dynamo)

Ben Olsen will reunite with his former assistant coach Pat Onstad, current Houston Dynamo GM, according to reports.

Houston Dynamo FC have chosen Ben Olsen to be the next head coach of the club, reported on Friday by The Athletic's Pablo Maurer and Sam Stejskal and ESPN's Jeff Carlisle.

The Athletic first reported the club's interest in Olsen on Monday. The former MLS midfielder coached D.C. United from 2010 to 2020 for a combined record of 113W-137L-84T in the MLS regular season.

Olsen led D.C. United to the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title and was named the 2014 MLS Coach of the Year. Under Olsen, an iconic player during his playing days at D.C. United, the club qualified six times for the MLS Cup Playoffs.

Olsen's closest attempt to winning an MLS Cup in D.C. came in 2012 when the club was eliminated by the Dynamo in the Eastern Conference finals. His teams were eliminated in the opening match of the playoffs on four occasions, even with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Luciano Acosta in 2018 and 2019.

The Texas club has yet to make an official announcement about the hire. The Striker reached out for an update on the coaching hire earlier this week but none was provided.

More information to be added as this is a developing story.
