Story Highlights
  • Sebastian Driussi is the lone Austin FC representative.
  • A pair of likely Qatar-bound players from FC Dallas, Paul Arriola and Jesus Ferreira, round out the Texas contingent.
  • The Galaxy and LAFC combined for five of the 26 roster spots.

Fans in California and Texas will have a reason to tune in when the MLS All-Star Team — announced Tuesday morning — takes on the best of Liga MX on Wednesday, Aug. 10 at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Austin FC fans will see a player represent their club for the first time ever, with MVP candidate Sebastian Driussi making the 26-player roster. The FC Dallas duo of Jesus Ferreira and Paul Arriola, key participants in the U.S. men's national team World Cup qualification, round out the Texas entrants.

LA Galaxy's Julian Araujo and LAFC's Ilie Sanchez, alongside Driussi, were among the twelve players voted in by MLS fans, players and media. The Galaxy also will be repped by Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, while Carlos Vela and Diego Palacios were coach selections to round out the trio of Black & Gold players.

Minnesota United FC head coach Adrian Heath, coach of the All-Star team as the host, picked twelve players of his own. Among those selections are LA Galaxy's Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez and LAFC's Carlos Vela and Diego Palacios. MLS Commissioner Don Garber had the remaining two selections.

“It’s a great honor to be Austin FC’s first MLS All-Star selection,” said Driussi via an Austin FC press release. “I’d like to thank my teammates and coaches. Without them, none of my individual success or our success as a team would be possible. I’m excited to represent Austin in Minnesota next month.”

"It’s an awesome way to bring both leagues together, both types of fans together as well," said FC Dallas forward Paul Arriola. "The MLS guys will definitely want to go out there and win and put on a show and show why we believe that MLS is now on the right track and can be better than Liga MX."
