HOUSTON — Two of the biggest clubs in Mexican soccer delivered a spectacle as Tigres was triumphant 2-1 over Club América at Houston's PNC Stadium on Wednesday night.
Argentina's Guido Pizarro made sure to send Tigres fans home happy with a 88th minute match winner. An attendance of 18,203 supporters from both clubs enjoyed a dynamic back and forth encounter with squads filled mostly with first team players.
Here's what happened
- Nicolás López scored in the 29th minute with a beautiful strike from distance. The play originated on a free kick where Sebastián Córdova played the ball towards the center of the field to "Diente" ("Tooth") López, who set himself up before hitting the ball clean.
- Federico Viñas tied the encounter in the 82nd minute with a lob inside the box to evade the America goalkeeper.
- Guido Pizarro scored the game winner in the 88th minute with a clean strike inside the top of the box.

Club América will head up to Austin to face another Monterrey area team, Rayados, at Q2 Stadium on Saturday. Tigres UANL will head down to the Valley to face Pachuca at H-E-B Park in Edinburg.
