On Monday evening, Julia Grosso announced via instagram hat her time in Austin was coming to a close. The superstar midfielder, Canadian national team player and Tokyo Olympic gold medalist will soon be opening the “next chapter” of her career. Turning professional.

The full statement read:

"Thankful for the last four years where I made the best memories and friends. I will forever cherish these times and remember these moments. Now onto the next chapter. Hook ‘em forever!"

The news comes after Texas' 2021 season came to an abrupt end on Sunday when Grosso and the Longhorns suffered a 2-0 defeat to SMU in the first round of the NCAA DI soccer tournament. Grosso was an integral part of UT's 2021 season that saw Texas reach its first Big 12 conference tournament final since 2007 and set a new school undefeated streak of 14 matches.

During her four seasons playing in Burnt Orange, Grosso has been exceptional. In 2018, 2019, and 2021 she was named on the All-Big 12 first team XI, while in 2020 she was awarded a spot on the conference second team XI. The Canadian international finishes her college career with 60 appearances, 21 goals and 16 assists.

In August 2021 Grosso became a household name after she scored the winning penalty in the gold medal match between Canada and Sweden at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. It was the first penalty the midfielder had ever taken.
