HOUSTON - Houston Dynamo FC parted ways with Senior Vice President and General Manager Matt Jordan, the Major League Soccer club announced on Monday.

“I’d like to wish everyone at Houston Dynamo FC all the best moving forward. I’m appreciative of the opportunity to work with such dedicated people over the years including ownership, front office staff, coaches and players,” Jordan said via a club press release. “I’m proud that during my time with the Club, we won a Championship, reached a Western Conference Final and established a strong foundation with our Academy and technical infrastructure to build on in the future.”

Jordan spoke with The Striker Texas earlier this month in an exclusive interview.

“After spending the last several weeks observing and evaluating a number of facets of our organization, I determined that it is in the best interest of the Club to go in a different direction with our soccer operations leadership,” said Houston Dynamo Football Club majority owner Ted Segal through the statement delivered by the club. “I want to thank Matt for all of his contributions to the Dynamo. He added to our championship history, aligned the Dynamo Academy and the first team, and was extremely generous with his time and knowledge as I prepared to take stewardship of the Club.”

A search for a new general manager will begin immediately, according to the team's press release.

The Matt Jordan Era by the numbers

Under Jordan's tenure, Houston Dynamo FC held a 60-91-64 record in Major League Soccer regular season matches. The team qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs during the 2017 season, reaching the Western Conference finals.

The club prioritized the U.S. Open Cup under Jordan, collecting 10 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw (advanced on pks) in five tournament appearances. The club benefited from an all-home schedule in 2018 to win their first U.S. Open Cup trophy.

The club went 2-2-0 in the 2019 Concacaf Champions League, the only tournament appearance under Jordan. The club drew 1-1 against Club America in the 2019 Leagues Cup but was denied advancing to the semifinals after losing on penalties.

What led to Jordan's dismissal?

The decision to part ways with Jordan comes 100 days from the previous Houston Dynamo FC, on May 22. The first team is currently on a club record 15-match winless streak and supporters have been vocal at the latest two home matches with signs reading "Fire Matt Jordan" and "Jordan Out."

What comes next for Dynamo FC?

Matt Jordan will finish out the week with Houston Dynamo FC to start the transition process. Assistant General Manager/Director of Soccer Operations Nick Kowba is expected to take most of Jordan's day to day responsibilities for the moment.

The club has begun a search to hire his replacement but that decision will probably come in the offseason.
