Fans’ dreams came true on Wednesday afternoon as San Antonio FC unveiled their third kit for 2021, dubbed the “Viva Kit,” incorporating a tri-color pattern which evokes the spirit of Fiesta. The kit will make its debut at the first Viva Night of the season on Saturday.
The design incorporates stripes of teal, pink and orange running down the center of the jersey’s front as well as on the sleeves. Those bright colors are associated with the Fiesta celebration which usually takes place in San Antonio in April to honor the heroes of the Alamo and San Jacinto, pivotal 1836 battles in Texas’ successful fight for independence from Mexico.

SAFC teased the announcement on Tuesday, and it wasn’t difficult for fans to predict what the new kit would be, with some even offering their money before SAFC had unveiled it.

The San Antonio Spurs, flagship franchise of Spurs Sports and Entertainment, unveiled what it called “City Edition” jerseys which incorporated the pattern in November ahead of the 2020-21 NBA season. The tri-color pattern was used in the team’s logo from 1989 to 2002. The Spurs wore warmups with the pattern from 1989 to 1997, but the 2020-21 season is the first time the pattern has been used for game-worn apparel.
SAFC’s new Viva Kit coincides with the first Viva Night of the season on Saturday. 2021’s three Viva Nights will be celebrations of San Antonio culture and pride, with festive food and decorations incorporated around the stadium, and even the goal nets will have a “certain San Antonio flair.”
Similar to the Spurs, SAFC brought in a flavor of Fiesta with pregame tops before incorporating the vibrant colors into actual jerseys. SAFC had a “Noche de Celebracion” in April 2019 which coincided with the Fiesta celebration and also celebrated local culture, customs and food.
Our city’s pride.
